4 – Yoga
Neuroscience research highlights active learning and how it impacts a child’s learning process. UK Professor Emily Cross from the Bangor University School of Psychology explains the impact of movement on memory and learning.
“Where the learner is doing, moving, acting and interacting” – can change the way the brain works and can accelerate kids’ learning process.”
Psychiatrist Meera Balasubramaniam from New York University Medical Centre says children trained in yoga showed greater improvement in areas of attention and hyperactivity. One of their studies prove that parents were able to employ yoga techniques to reduce behavioural problems in their children.
5 – Emotional Intelligence
Emotional Intelligence is the ability to identify, process and manage your own emotions and the emotions of others. It includes:
- Emotional Awareness
- The ability to harness emotions and apply them to tasks like thinking and problem solving
- The ability to manage your own emotions and regulate/manage other people’s emotions.
A 2013 Forbes article shared research by the Carnegie Institute of Technology that highlighted – building emotional intelligence can help children be good managers, good leaders, be able to work well in a team, and more importantly have the ability to develop strong, connected relationships as a child and in their adult life.
Emotional Intelligence Yoga combines all 5 powerful techniques
With a background in Psychotherapy and Yoga, therapist and qualified yoga instructor Cherelle Danker is launching a program that combines all 5 techniques in Sydney. Through the combination of Psychotherapy and strategic narratives Cherelle creates a unique opportunity for children to gain emotional resilience by teaching them Emotional Intelligence through the movement of Yoga.
“We teleport into the child’s world and each session is themed around patience, courage, compassion, joy, gratitude, confidence and more. Incorporating psychotherapy techniques through the movement of yoga and strategic story telling, kids can learn to recognise negative emotions and behaviours and practice constructive techniques to transform them…….. themselves”, she said.
Cherelle teaches EFT tapping, (Emotional Freedom Technique) as well, another technique that children can use to calm themselves in a stressful or upsetting situation. Cherelle said that people shouldn’t underestimate young children and their ability to learn resilience and by teaching them successful techniques, kids have the ability to process and transform negative emotions even as young as 4 years of age.
“By giving young children the opportunity to learn Emotional Intelligence through the movement of yoga, they will learn how to regulate their emotions themselves and with practice, be naturally more resilient and better equipped to deal with challenging situations.”
Cherelle Danker is conducting Kids Emotional Intelligence Yoga Introductory Programs in Sydney. Only 10 spots available for each age group in August.
