The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Funding is always a challenge when working within the disability space. Learning to work with funding limitations rather than seeing them as a brick wall has helped us through some very tough times.
Working out the logistics for book and album production has meant I’ve learnt a lot about how distribution and publishing work. Figuring that out while trying to keep enough of a business going to pay for the creation of great materials has been a huge challenge and continues to be so.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
There are definitely pros and cons to running your own business.
In terms of cons, the flexibility it gives me and my family is huge. I’m not answering to anyone else, and I can develop ideas as they come.
As for cons, if things don’t work, it’s me that carries it. Invoices don’t get paid, but bills still arrive. I have to meet deadlines and push myself to keep growing, as no one else is going to do that for me.

Hopes and dreams: What next?
I’d love for more children and families to have access to our books and resources and for them to be useful at home. Another singalong book and album are already in the ideas stage, so that would be great to get those launched. Extending our reach to help families with high-quality musical resources for development would be amazing!
