The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
As individuals we have all spent a large portion of our lives feeling that we needed to prove ourselves, and be everything for everyone. In modern society there is pressure from all directions for women to step up and be equal to men, but not relinquish the roles we take caring for and growing our families, nurturing relationships with friends, and running our households. As a group of four friends, and four women, we are all passionate about women having the choice about how much they do, what they dedicate their time to, and what roles they take on, in and out of the home, and because we have all been on our own journeys relating to this, we are really inspired and motivated to support and guide other women who may be looking to find that balance in their own lives.
When in the planning stages, before we officially launched FITBabes we all agreed on one thing, and that is what our whole business philosophy is built around – we want to inspire and empower women to create freedom and abundance, and become the very best version of themselves. It is our belief that all women have the right to choose. Choose which opportunities they take, choose how they care for themselves, choose how they raise their families, choose how they manage their careers, choose their own level of success, and ultimately choose to design a life exactly as they want it to be.
The result – FITBabes Freedom Inspired Tribe. A global community of women who are all working towards their most empowered selves, while inspiring and supporting each other to continue doing the same.
The Launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
We literally launched our community via Facebook Live, from an Auckland restaurant! And we started giving. We did a membership give away, we added value into our community, we spoke to everyone who was willing to listen, telling them about our community and the mission behind it. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, which was amazing.
We also set up a team forum for the women who decided to join us in business, and this is well established now, providing all the basic training and ongoing support that allows any woman to grow her own business while inspiring and supporting others.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
The foundation of our business is based around three pillars – fitness, nutrition, and transformation. Once we had settled on these 3 areas as the building blocks for all of our products, content, and services, everything just starting falling into place. Settling on those three topics really was out lightbulb moment.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
That’s a tough one! Only one of us have children currently, but we all have commitments and strong, close relationships with our families and partners. What we do is very much based around the idea that our business is flexible, simple, and can be done from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. This is a double edged sword in the sense that we are able to go out to things during the day, when we would otherwise be at work, but we also need to be wary of not being connected to the business (and the internet!) 100% of the time, and resulting in us not investing quality time in ourselves and our relationships with others.
I guess the real key is practising what we preach.
We support women to find balance and harmony in their own lives, and guide them to learn how to really show themselves some love, and what better way to do this than to lead by example.
