The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
Wishful Creations NZ was a long-held dream. Inspired by my mother’s creative work in painting, floral arrangements, and sewing clothes during my childhood, I always admired her self-taught skills. Recently, a friend and colleague reignited this passion with her own craft, bringing back those cherished memories. It felt like the right time to believe in myself and take a deep dive into this venture.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
In the beginning, my focus was to narrow down my niche and build a strong online presence, essential in today’s market. I spent countless hours developing a few products to showcase, formulating a business strategy, and networking. It was, and still is, a period of intense learning and adaptation, but my commitment to the vision keeps me going.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
The biggest breakthroughs for Wishful Creations NZ were the rapid growth of our Instagram following and the increased traffic to our online store. Mastering social media has been challenging but transformative, opening new opportunities for our small business.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Balancing a full-time job, family, and a small business is always challenging. I prioritise by setting boundaries for each activity and employing time management techniques, such as dedicating two hours each weekday and four hours each weekend to my business. I ensure quality time with family, take regular breaks, and reschedule non-essential tasks. This balance is crucial for maintaining both personal well-being and professional productivity.
