The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
One of the biggest challenges has been creating systems that allow a mobile salon to function smoothly across very different homes and needs. Every client is unique, from young mums with busy households to elderly clients who need a slower, gentler pace.
Organising equipment, choosing products that are effective yet kind, and maintaining consistency while working in different environments has taken time and refinement. But those challenges have also shaped Healthy Hair into a service that is adaptable, respectful and genuinely client-centred.
Learning to protect my own work-life balance while continuing to show up fully for clients has been another important, and ongoing, lesson.

For Better or Worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The biggest positive is the ability to build a business that reflects my values. Healthy Hair allows me to prioritise family, community and wellbeing, while still providing professional, high-quality services.
I love being able to support mums who might otherwise skip self-care, and elderly clients who feel more comfortable receiving services at home. Keeping pricing reasonable is a conscious choice – feeling good about yourself shouldn’t come at the expense of financial stress.
Long term, my vision is to grow Healthy Hair into something that my children can be proud of – and possibly even continue one day.

Hopes and Dreams: What’s next?
The next step is expansion. I would love to see Healthy Hair operating in more regions across New Zealand, making mobile hairdressing a standard, accessible service for families and older clients alike.
At its core, Healthy Hair is about care – caring for hair, for people and for the environments we move through every day. If you’re a hairdresser looking for flexibility, or someone who values a calm, in-home experience using gentler products, we’d love to connect.
