But online, quietly scrolling, I had some nice encounters. Some turned into DMs of mutual encouragement and validation. And some blossomed into online friendships. Chatting online gets deep quick, and it is music to my ears. And it doesn’t matter that I’m an introvert. It doesn’t matter that I’m sitting on the couch with my boob out, or that it’s 2am and I’m up for the umpteenth time that night. Because there’s always another mum there.
Before I became a mum, I would never have dreamed that my village wouldn’t be a physical shoulder to cry on, but a community of like-minded mums at my fingertips, all hours of the day and night, from all across the world. A village sewn together with “yarns” about our motherhood experiences.
A coming together, knowing that we are not alone in what we are experiencing. Coming together and re-imagining what motherhood looks like and what it could look like.
Before I became a mum, never in my wildest daydreams could I have pictured myself starting an entire movement with an online mum friend who I’ve never met in person, but chatted with via Zoom, DMs, voice and video messages and connected with so quickly.
Our village doesn’t look like we thought it would in the traditional sense, but this is Our Motherhood Revolution and we can’t wait to bring it to the world and change the way modern mums do motherhood – their way.
