My advice to all parents is to incorporate meditation into your everyday life, even just for a couple of minutes. Use it to check in with how they feel, an opportunity to reflect, share and release. A quiet space for little minds might be just what they need along with a parent’s loving guidance.
Try introducing quiet moments to your child, where you both sit and connect with your heart to notice how you feel. Suggest breathing away any feelings you don’t want to feel anymore and invite in positive feelings that will brighten your day.
I believe that if we teach young children that it’s OK to feel different emotions, it will give them a good foundation for challenging times as they grow up. Its also empowering for them to understand that they have the option to release emotions and move forward.
I spoke to one family yesterday whose child still hasn’t got “The star of the week” award, delivered by email to the whole school while on lockdown. They used my sad meditation to stop their 5-year-old from feeling left out each week and it’s worked, which just goes to show we can empower children to feel good and start to understand their worth.
