New Guidelines Say No Fruit Juice For Infants in First Year

The AAP cite data that shows children between ages 2 to 18 years of age consume almost half their fruit intake as juice, but that this has declined in recent years. They say that parents need to distinguish between sugary fruity drinks and actual fruit juice:

“One hundred percent fresh or reconstituted fruit juice can be a healthy part of the diet of children older than 1 year when consumed as part of a well-balanced diet. Fruit drinks, however, are not nutritionally equivalent to fruit juice.”
