Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

Balancing work and family have been one of my biggest challenges on this journey. My mum guilt is strong and something that I am constantly working on. I enjoy having an identity outside of the house – it’s not for everyone, but for me, it makes me a better mum.

Obviously, I feel pulled in two directions: my passion for establishing Eius in the market place and spending quality time with my family. This is all about prioritising and scheduling, even if this means taking a conference call at 3 a.m. As mothers, we all know tiredness; however, nothing beats the productivity that can be achieved in the wee hours of the morning.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Every day is a challenge when you are a small company dealing with the giants of an industry who have been well established over time. I have one product and a limited marketing budget and time frame, which makes it hard, but I’m up for the challenge.

My biggest challenge to date was finding the right people to support the growth of Eius who also understood my passion about women having choices around what they put in their bodies. The sourcing of raw ingredients, understanding the reaction of combining these ingredients, compounding and production of formulas, selecting reputable marketing and advertising companies, financing and distribution are among the other many challenges I faced. The fact that I have achieved what I have is something that I am really proud of.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

Running a small business like mine can be lonely and, some days, quite soul-crushing when you feel frustrated by the length of time it is taking to achieve goals. Still, I feel pride and excitement when orders come through, a woman tells me they love my product, or when I receive positive feedback from healthcare professionals. It makes the tough times seem OK.

The connection you make with other women, either on their journey to motherhood or in the same business, has made my struggles worth it. Eius has evolved into more than a prenatal vitamin; it’s a community.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I am a motivated dreamer with big plans! 2023 will be a great year for Eius – watch this space! I am working on a few new products and collaborations at the moment. My ongoing hope is that I will have the opportunity to continue creating products that will support fertility.
