Nursing – A Poem

Photography: Lion Fox and Co

On Not-So-Good-Days
I feel harassed
wrung out
used up
Like one of our dishcloths
Your mouth is insistent
I’ve been resistant today,
In my giving
I wait to have my body back to myself
Knowing full well it will never
Be
You and your sister forever a part of me Like the pips in the center of a grape, Encased in a sense of having always started Within your Mother Me, your Beginning

And I continue to grow you
Try my best to meet your demands,
Enjoy this dance between you and I –
As I know this moment
here is only a fraction of a limited time, And one day Life will fill you up You will find sustenance Elsewhere Not here At my breast Out there and away from me You will grow, So, I treasure you And I try to be kind On those days where my body is no longer just Mine.
