Pet Boutique & Dog Cafe: Treat Your Furry Family Members

I had my tonsils removed in November and went back to doing markets the day after I came out of hospital because I just couldn’t afford not to.

December was pretty good in the shopping centre but once mask restrictions came in, all of the pop ups – myself included – ended up packing up as there were no customers out and about.

When you throw in a 6-year-old, a café (with all of the standard opening week mishaps such as torrential rain and flooding) and lockdown 2.0, there will always be some challenges, but as they say, nothing worth having comes easy!

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

I don’t know that I’d say that there are cons, just some hurdles. Obviously the costs can be a big one, as well as being in the public eye in a small community. But it is very rewarding and brings a sense of achievement.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

My little shop is a pet boutique and dog café. I hope to either extend here, or, if I really need to, move to a bigger site so that I can turn it into a puppy play center with dog groomers available on site too. But at this stage, slowly does it and what’s next is just to build an amazing community and get my business off the ground.
