The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
One of the biggest challenges that I have overcome (well, still trying maybe) is to put myself out there. I think at the start of the business I was too worried if the store was going to succeed or how professional it looked so I never told anybody about the business. It was like I kept it a secret from everyone because then I wouldn’t be vulnerable. Of course, this didn’t work. With some help from a close friend/life coach and just backing myself more, I was able to slowly be braver and braver with fully stepping into me and being loud and proud about the business. I recently came across business professionals saying “if you aren’t embarrassed about your first version, you’ve launched too late” so I keep this in mind when I think my photos or blog posts etc. aren’t up to scratch. Of course, I want everything to look professional and be perfect, but if I let those thoughts overcome me, then I end up doing nothing.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I will start with the cons first so I can finish on a positive note. It would definitely be for me trying to find time to execute all the ideas I want to in the very limited timeframe I have available. It’s very hard to work from home and stay focused when you know you need to put a load of washing on or be distracted by the never-ending jobs at home to do. It’s so hard to want to achieve so much in such a little timeframe, while still wanting to be the very best mother/wife/sister/friend that I want to be. But hey, there are no rules right!
There are so many pros to running my own business. I guess the absolute standout for me is that I get to combine my passion for family health and my passion for business and create a place to inspire others who want to do the same. I love that my business excites me and challenges me on a creative level, I love that I get to run it around my family life, I love that my children get involved with it and are sharing all the excitement with me, I love that raising a healthy active family is something I am doing anyway so it just makes it easier to create content and product ideas because it’s organically part of my life. For me, running my business is my “me time” and I feel so grateful I get to do it at my pace.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
Next for me with the business is to just work towards gaining a bit more consistency in sales. I have been working on a few different sources to increase brand awareness and customers to my business so I’m looking forward to them gaining momentum and the business growing to a more consistent level of sales.
As the business grows, our product range will expand, which I’m so excited for because there are still so many products and brands I want to bring to my community.
Then the ultimate goal will to be open up my own store!
