The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Being a new concept of renting toys instead of selling is definitely the biggest challenge. People have lots of warming up to do with the new idea of the sharing economy. The goal is to make sure that our clients understand our model fully and are comfortable with the idea of sharing toys. In practice, our business is nothing new (I’m pretty sure we all accepted hand-me-down toys and clothes) but having the understanding of the system is what’s most difficult at the moment.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The worst by far is definitely having to wear all the hats of the business. From accounting to marketing all through the operations is definitely exhausting but I love being able to see everything happen. I am an eternal optimist and I’m looking forward to the day where I have a little bit more freedom and am able to fully focus on Green Leaf Toys. Also, being able to share with the world something you created is pretty special. I always wanted to create a business that would truly encapsulate my values while also being beneficial to our community, the planet and to families. And with Green Leaf Toys I feel like I can do it all.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I like being down to earth and understanding that launching a new product, especially a new concept, is something that takes a lot of effort and patience, so I’m just trying to stay consistent and working to make the business take off. Hopefully soon, we’ll be able to service more and more Australian families and promote the incredible benefits of the sharing economy.
