By Chiara Favaretti
Hello, I am Chiara. Pre & Post Natal Specialist, Certified Pilates Teacher, BackCare Professional and Shiatsu Therapist. Most importantly a woman, and a mom-to-be.
In the past years, I had the pleasure of working with many women at different stages in life. Particularly, whilst undergoing the journey of pregnancy myself, I have gained greater insight and understanding of the unique needs of the pregnant body and developed a combination of non-invasive techniques to help relieve physical discomforts, as well as create a sense of relaxation and wellbeing. It is very gratifying to see this making a positive impact, both on myself and the women that reach out to me.
In my experience, Pilates and Shiatsu have been some of the most useful tools during both pregnancy and the postnatal period. Whilst the former is often talked about and recommended by Women’s Health Specialists, I would like to bring some more light onto the latter, and help you discover its great benefits, particularly during pregnancy.
What is Shiatsu?
Seiki Shiatsu is a form of massage therapy that is gradually gaining popularity among pregnant women. This ancient form of bodywork originates from Japan and can be used to provide relief from pain, stress and other pregnancy-related symptoms.
How does it work?
Through physical pressure and release, Seiki Shiatsu frees up the body from physical tension and stimulates the body’s natural healing processes. By working with the meridians – the energy channels that run through and across the whole body – Seiki Shiatsu addresses the body as a whole, targeting the source of tension rather than its sole symptoms.
