The Birth Sling: Supporting Women in Pregnancy and Birth

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

I’m a trained Osteopath, so I’ve been on a very steep learning curve working out all the things required to create and manage The Birth Sling! I’ve had to learn how to design, manufacture, safety test, manage regulatory requirements, create advertising content, control inventory, budget…and the list goes on! It’s been very rewarding but there have been many challenges along the way.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

I love the independence and autonomy I have. I can make my own decisions and set my own priorities and I’m not bound by the rules and regulations of a corporate structure, which allows me greater flexibility and creativity.

It’s also very fulfilling to see my ideas come to life and know that I’m having a positive impact on the labour and birth experiences for women and their partners.

However, things like the financial risk, the long hours, the personal sacrifices, and the uncertainty of knowing if I’ll make enough money each month to live off can be quite stressful!

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I would love it if one day The Birth Sling became so well known, every pregnant woman in the world knew about it and understood the benefits of having one on hand should they choose to use it during labour and/or birth.
