Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
It’s not always easy and organisation is definitely the key. I need to make sure that I plan all of my tasks, including activities with the family and even relaxation time. Going into this business, I made a decision to schedule in time to focus 100% on my children when I have days off with them. I decided that in each task that I scheduled, I would be completely present in the moment, to focus on the task at hand. If that activity is playing with the kids, then I want to be totally focused on that so I can enjoy it and live in the moment. This is the core basis in my life and my business.
The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Letting go of my previous career and believing in myself that I can make changes in my life to support others. With these changes, I have also made financial sacrifices to get educated in my new field and to set up a business, which also impacts the family. This has definitely been a challenge.
On my journey I started to realise that this was really common among other mums, whether it be the full identity crisis, getting the family organised or health and fitness.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros are the flexibility and freedom to create something from scratch to grow into your dream vision. It is wonderful to have a vision, a goal and try to create something to achieve it.
The cons would be that it can be lonely at times and absolutely terrifying. For me, I’m a sole business owner and that means you don’t always have another person to troubleshoot with.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
The Identity Trainer is about to launch two new services: Birth Doula services coming in March 2019 and Pre & Post Natal Personal Training packages coming in October 2019. These services are 18 months in the making and I can’t wait to start helping provide support to new mums on their journey to motherhood.
