The Curriculum: What can parents expect?
To dive in a bit deeper, our key learning areas for Years/Grades 1 through to 6, are broken into the themes of: Connection & Belonging, Service & Community, Nature, Earth & Beyond, and Phenomena.
For teens, our curriculum is designed to meet their need to thoroughly explore the human condition and question everything around them, including the rules, forms and structures of our society! The Year 8 curriculum, for instance, centres on themes such as Revolutions, The Art of Communication and Dystopian Fiction, a Personal Interest Project, Ecosystems and Human Culture, Love and Lust.
We’re so proud of the forward-thinking educators who were involved in writing such a wonderful curriculum for homeschooling families across Australia.
The Community: Who is most drawn to HOME EDUCATE?
At a time when paradigms are experiencing seismic shifts on every level (education, finances, social structures and technology), HOME EDUCATE parents are deeply aware that the biggest legacy they can leave their children is the ability to think critically and be curious about the world around them. They would like to grow children with the skills for autonomy, collaboration and resilience.
Our community of parents and educators see homeschooling as a rich alternative to existing educational structures. Specifically, they value HOME EDUCATE as a valuable resource that offers an alternative worldview. It’s becoming increasingly acknowledged that the traditional education system is plagued by teacher shortages, declining educational standards and overcrowded classrooms.
The Future: What does the next generation have to look forward to?
We’re fed a lot of doom and gloom about the future from the media and elsewhere. Yet, in the next decade and more, we will be witness to exciting change. Many of the old stories that we have been fed over time are on the brink of collapse.
We will see leaps and bounds in innovation across every field: the environment, technology, health, finance and social structures. The world, as we know it, will be utterly transformed, beyond what we can possibly know.
It sounds like a cliché, but the children of today will be the leaders of tomorrow. They are already accumulating the essential skills to thrive in a fast-evolving world.
Young people today are far more concerned about conscious consumerism. They want to preserve our planet and are not afraid to demand accountability from institutions and governments. Transparency and privacy are far more important to them than for previous generations. Ultimately, the next generation is energised to co-create a better world, one based on equity, diversity and inclusion.
The Dreaming: What’s in the pipeline for HOME EDUCATE?
We are developing new shareable content for families in 2024, with a particular focus on sustainability and our precious resources. Our upcoming Home Hacks material is designed to inspire everyday families to care for the environment in creative ways, starting within the home. We are super excited to be leaning into this space with continued commitment to support families.
