A Holistic Approach to Empowering Women in Birth

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

In the beginning, imposter syndrome was loud. Who am I to be doing this? What if no one hires me? The doubt crept in often and unapologetically. I questioned my worth, my experience, even my voice.

But I’ve done this enough times now to see the real impact I have – the way I walk beside women through one of the most powerful transitions of their lives.

I’ve witnessed firsthand how the support I offer changes their births, their experience of motherhood, and ultimately, their belief in themselves. And now, when that imposter shows up, I know exactly where to tell him to go.

Another challenge? Visibility. In the early days, putting myself out there – sharing my thoughts, my work, my heart – felt incredibly vulnerable. I worried about being judged, misunderstood or simply not seen at all. But over time, I learned that visibility isn’t about perfection – it’s about connection. Each time I shared honestly, it reached someone who needed to hear it. Now, showing up feels like an act of service, not self-promotion. It’s how I build trust, community and real change.

The fear hasn’t disappeared entirely, but now I meet it with confidence, compassion and clarity. Because I know why I’m here – and I trust the transformation I help create.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

Running a Birth Practitioner business is one of the most rewarding paths I’ve chosen, but it’s also one that’s stretched me in ways I never expected.

There is nothing more meaningful than walking alongside women as they move through birth and into motherhood. The work is raw, powerful and deeply sacred. I get to witness transformation in its purest form. These aren’t just clients; they are women trusting me in one of the most vulnerable and significant moments of their lives. That kind of connection stays with you.

But that emotional depth comes with weight. Holding space for such profound experiences means sometimes carrying other people’s fears, pain or past trauma. In the early days, I didn’t know how to separate their energy from mine. It left me feeling drained. Over time, though, I’ve learned the importance of emotional boundaries and nervous system care – not just for my wellbeing, but so I can show up fully, without running on empty. That lesson alone has changed every part of how I work and live.

Then there’s the freedom of being your own boss. I love the flexibility – being able to create a business that fits around my life, my values and my family. It allows me to parent with presence and build something that feels truly mine.

But of course, that freedom also comes with responsibility. There’s no one to hand things off to in the beginning. I’m the marketer, the admin, the accountant and the content creator, sometimes all in one day. It’s been overwhelming at times, but it’s also pushed me to grow. I’ve learned so many new skills, built systems that support me, and now run my business with much more ease and intention than I ever thought possible.

One of the hardest parts, though, has been learning how to be visible. Sharing my voice, my story and the depth of this work publicly felt incredibly vulnerable at first. I worried I’d be judged or misunderstood. But I’ve come to realise that showing up isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being real. The more honestly I share, the more I connect with the people who truly need what I offer.

Visibility stopped being scary when I remembered why I started this in the first place.

Every challenge has been an invitation to deepen: my boundaries, my knowledge, my capacity. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

My deepest hope is to help shift the narrative around birth and to guide women out of fear and back into trust. For too long, birth has been treated as something to endure, to get through, to survive. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Birth can be powerful. It can be healing. It can be remembered as one of the most sacred rites of passage a woman will ever move through.

I want to reach as many women as I can, because every woman deserves to know that birth isn’t just a physical event. It’s emotional. It’s spiritual. It’s deeply transformational. The way you birth matters – not just in the moment, but for years to come. It can shape the way you see yourself, the way you mother and even the way you bond with your baby. Science is finally catching up to what we’ve always known intuitively: that birth changes brain chemistry, rewires emotional connection and leaves a lasting imprint on both mother and child.

I want women to feel informed and supported in their choices. I want them to feel held – not just clinically, but emotionally, energetically and spiritually. I want them to leave the birth space feeling powerful, not powerless.

My hope is that we begin to reclaim birth as something sacred. That we normalise rest, reverence and recovery. That we raise the standard of care, not through fear, but through trust, community and truth.

This work isn’t just about supporting births; it’s about creating ripple effects that last for generations. And I believe it starts with one woman at a time, remembering her power, and stepping into birth with knowledge, support and deep, unwavering belief in herself.
