The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
There’s a really fine line between preparing couples for birth in a positive and supportive manner, and being honest and realistic about the current state of maternity services in the UK, and the wider implications for a birth within the healthcare system. I try to find that delicate balance and facilitate preparation for the best birth for them within the environment they choose, be it hospital, home, or a birth centre. It needs to be absolutely about their individual choices, and supporting them on their terms.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Where do I start? Starting a small business is a wild ride. I needed to learn about creating a website, working with a minimum budget, limited time, and so on. For me it’s been so worth it… Seeing the transformation in the couples that I have worked with, the confidence, the happiness, and the impact of every single birth on babies, parents and their wider families fills me with awe and gratitude every time. There is such beauty in a self-empowered birth experience, and I count myself lucky that I can be a small part of it.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I would love to spend less time posting on socials and more time doing what I love – connecting with pregnant women, birthing people and their families online, and ideally face to face too. With that in mind, I am planning two special projects, one involving gourmet food suitable for pregnancy, and one project involving graphic design – that’s all I’m saying for now. It is important for me to take things one step at a time, so I won’t rush it. So looking forward to connecting with moms and parents locally and wider in the UK!
