Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Being a global business, I can do business most times of the day. I get up an hour early before my kids and husband get up, and work during nap times and at night once the kids have gone to bed. It’s my choice when I work, how much I work and what days I take a break.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
A legit fear of public speaking and handling rejections has been my biggest challenge. At times I would cancel events, reschedule appointments or make up excuses to get relief when it all became too much. The support from my team, my upline and our team’s book club has been absolutely incredible. I have made more friends in the three years of doing this business than I have in the last decade; their encouragement and team training has empowered me to just be me because anything else won’t be enough or true to myself. Reading books once again has changed my life. I read books about network marketing, personal growth and books about other people’s success. I still have some fear of public speaking but I no longer reschedule or try and get away from it, so it’s a work in progress but very much improving each and every day.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The freedom of choosing when and where you work is great but your own discipline has to be greater. It’s exhausting trying to work while making lunch, entertain a toddler, breastfeed an infant, do laundry and clean the house at the same time all day. I say all day because that’s how long it will take to get some of that stuff done – the stuff you do complete will not be a satisfactory job and it will all leave you feeling exhausted. Scheduling everything in your day from the time you will wake up, exercise, eat, play and work is absolutely essential and healthier for you and your family. That way you stay focused, present, and productive throughout the day.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I really want to help people start dreaming and working for those dreams again. Your current situation doesn’t have to be forever. You and only you can change your path. Just sometimes you need someone to take the time reach out, be a good listener and believe in you. I want to be that person for as many people as I possibly can.
