Your Birth Stories: Cassie and Birdie

Story by Cassie. Photography by Elisha May Photography.

I received my prenatal care and delivered at a Birth Center, which meant very little intervention (one ultrasound) during pregnancy and a drug-free birth. I acknowledged that even though I had no idea what I was doing, my body was literally made for this, and I owed it to myself to trust that.

At 42 weeks I was given an herbal induction that consisted mainly of drinking a cup of castor oil over a 5-hour period to help induce labor. It worked. I labored at home from 4:30pm to 9:00pm. At 9:15pm my contractions went from uncomfortable, to my legs giving out beneath me, to active labor without much notice.
