The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I honestly feel like I’m fumbling my way through this. It’s all new to me and I’m learning as I go. All I can do is what I can do and just keep going. I believe in my Milkie Bra and I believe I can succeed in this.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I love that I have something of my own, a creative outlet to put my energy into. I love the connections I’ve made, meeting mothers and babies and hearing their stories and their birth stories. I love sharing my own breastfeeding journey and my birth stories.
There are too many negative stories being told to pregnant and new mums. I know I heard them when I was pregnant. I want to change that and be a positive role model for positive births and successful breastfeeding journeys. My business and presence on my socials allow me to do that. I’m grateful for that. The con is that it leaves very little down time, it’s so consuming! It takes over and I want to learn more.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I’d love to go to Bali and meet the mum that is making the bras for me. I have more ideas to help postpartum mothers be comfortable and stylish during the 4th trimester and beyond. I want more colours and styles. I see bra singlets, undies, pjs and robes on the horizon.
At this stage of the game, it’s baby steps. But I’m super excited to be growing. All the feedback has been wonderful. Truly, it warms my heart to know that new mums are confident, comfortable and leak free in their bra.
