Colic: tips and natural remedies

How can I soothe my colicky baby?

  • A warm bath can provide relief for your baby in the colicky times and can also help them to fall asleep.
  • Regular oil massages will also do wonders for any baby suffering from colic pain. Massage will help keep the baby warm, ensure proper digestion and prevent gas. You can also massage the tummy area to relieve painful trapped gas.

Put some warm olive oil into your hands and gently massage your baby’s tummy in  clockwise circles – also massage the baby’s rib cage, pelvis, hands and feet. Repeat this several times a day.
  • Always burp the baby after feeding to prevent colic pain. Burping helps in releasing the gas. It prevents discomfort and pain occurring from air trapped in the stomach.

After you feed your baby, hold them upright and gently rub his or her back and  tummy. Keep rubbing until there is a burping sound from your baby.
  • Take a walk outdoors to a calming place like the park, which can help you relax too. The movement of the pram might be soothing for your baby.
  • Babies are often soothed when cuddled or held close to a parent’s chest and heartbeat, since this is reminiscent of the comfort and safety of the womb. Walking, rocking and movement are very comforting to most infants.

If you are looking to try out a natural remedy alongside the suggestions listed above, Soothe Me Baby offers a gentle, safe, natural and effective approach to relieving colic pain and digestive problems in infants and children. The active ingredient, Pimpinella anisum, has been traditionally used since ancient times for its medicinal properties. It acts as a gastrointestinal relaxant, helping to eliminate unwanted gases trapped in the stomach. Soothe Me Baby also aids to promote digestion and promotes relaxation.

Having a baby who cries a lot can be very wearing and stressful for parents. Make sure you look after yourself. Discuss your worries about your baby with your health visitor or doctor. Seek help from them if you feel very down or anxious. Take up offers from family or friends to help so you can take time out for rests and time for yourself. You and your partner will need to support each other and take it in turns to spend time consoling your crying baby. Talking with others who have babies with colic may help too or contacting a support group.

Remember that colic does go away, and it is a phase your baby will come through.
