The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Learning the world of social media and content creating. Before owning a business, I was never really big on social media. I only really knew the basics and would only post on special occasions or documenting holidays. In the beginning, I would dread trying to create content or thinking about what to post every day. Thankfully my best friend is a natural at creating stunning content and has taught me so much. I now enjoy creating content and thinking of new creative ways to show off my products, though I am still eager to keep learning and expanding my knowledge.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The biggest pro for me is still being able to spend that quality time with my little one, without having to rush off to work or daycare. I am able to wake up with him every day, watch him accomplish those new milestones, be there for all the firsts or whenever he needs me, while still contributing to our family’s income. The love and support from my customers is extremely rewarding as well. It is such a great feeling knowing that they love their products as much as I love creating them. It gives me that drive to keep on exploring and creating new products for them to adore.
The inconsistent income that running a small business brings can be difficult. No one week is ever the same. Some weeks are incredibly good and other weeks can be incredibly slow. Being a one-person team can also be difficult at times trying to make sure you are getting everything off your to-do list each day and covering all aspects of the business.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My hopes and dreams for the future are to continue to grow the business so I can get a second machine and eventually move the business out of our garage and into a warehouse or bigger shed. I am currently working on expanding our shipping worldwide within the next year.
