The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
Well… we are just about to launch in late March or early April so crossing fingers! I’ve been working on this business since I started on maternity leave and it has been slow going, working during nap times, after baby has gone to bed, and the odd times when my mum could babysit. I’ve hired a lot of skills through Upwork and have had amazing support through Facebook groups for business mums.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
I’d like to hope that I haven’t had it yet as we are still so new. But in this time – Canva and Upwork. They have been a total godsend!
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
With difficulty. I wish I could say I’m very structured and disciplined and one of those super women who does everything but I’m far from it! Something had to give so exercising and socialising have unfortunately taken a bit of a back seat. I try to be 100% with my little one when he is awake and then work on the business when he naps. Sometimes my mum will babysit so I can catch up on the work backlog but I’m so torn at these times; I’m doing this business for my little one, to spend more time with him, but the irony is that to get it going, I am spending less time with him. I really struggle with that.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Doing this all on minimal sleep! There have been so many little challenges but it has all been a massive learning and growth period.
I’m expecting that returning to work will be a major challenge as I will have to fit that in, as well as everything I’m currently doing
Hopes and dreams: What next?
Hoping and dreaming that this business will succeed! I would love to see Eco Mamas Market grow to America and Europe as well. With Eco Mamas Market growing, it means that more people are concerned about what they are buying and the impacts that so many normal, everyday items are having on our health and on the planet. The only way corporates will change is through consumers voting with their wallets .
Visit the Eco Mamas Market website to learn more about the amazing work they are doing, and to browse their full range of products. You can also join their supportive Facebook and Instagram communities.
