The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
When I first launched RORY Face Stuff, the three products were in three different-sized bottles – which meant customers ran out at completely different times, which wasn’t ideal.
We’ve since created new glass bottles for each of the products, so they all run out at the same time. This also means the trio can be purchased in a subscription format – it’s RORY to your door-y on repeat. AKA one less thing to think about!
These new bottles also meant updated colours and labels. I added a number ‘1’, ‘2’ and ‘3’ to the bottles to easily tell when to use which. We also had a fresh photoshoot and I’m really happy with the result.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Running my copywriting business and RORY Face Stuff from home allows me to hop in and out in nap windows and after hours. This is a pro and a con! Our baby doesn’t go to daycare so I do love that this type of work allows me to be with him as much as possible. I definitely struggle with tuning out from work and find it difficult to balance this with the general to-dos of the house (I will usually choose my work over housework #sorrynotsorry).
A highlight is being able to choose where revenue goes. In a large organisation, I don’t feel I’d have this type of say in the bigger picture. We donate $1 from every order to Gidget Foundation Australia, supporting the mental health of expectant, new and potential parents to ensure they receive accessible, timely and specialist care. I hope to increase this amount in the future.
A downside is definitely not having a predictable income, but it’s something that I am grateful for having my copywriting business for as well – I am able to have some predictability there and balance the two.

Hopes and dreams: What next?
The RORY Face Stuff is getting a makeover – I’m excited to launch this bad boy into the world and celebrate with a little bonus for customers. Stay tuned!
