Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
The kids really get stuck in and help us and it has become a real family affair. Good to Eat is something that we can all do as a family with Connor helping with measuring and plating up our meals and Lochlan popping the nutrition labels on the meals and into the fridge. Boxing up the meals for the courier pick up is such a hilarious affair for us, with both kids double checking that Geoff and I are sending the right meals to the right customers.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Getting started in any business is challenging, particularly in the food and hospitality industry, but we’ve been very fortunate with the relationships we’ve built with our suppliers, nutritionists and trusted sources, which have helped us hit the ground running.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Like most new startups, there isn’t enough time in the day to achieve everything we set out to do but we are so lucky to have the support that we do and the passion we have to grow our business. It’s hard work but we love what we do and can’t wait to share our product range with your readers.
There are nights when we’re burning the midnight oil, only to be up again at 5am to start the day all over again, and date nights have gone from candlelit dinners to family meal planning but in all honesty, we wouldn’t change a thing. We love that this is a family business – we’re in it together.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
Ultimately, we want to grow our business locally as well as across the nation. We have customer requests in the South Island so expanding there is the next step for us.
