For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros are certainly that it gives me a chance to see my kids running around in a creative structure that I have produced and grown from the ground up. Seeing the smiles on people’s faces as they connect with the designs is always a benefit and also knowing that I am supporting Australian made products and the money stays here ethically and sustainably.
Cons – There is little to no support in this industry. I can often feel alone and like I’m searching in the dark for what direction to go next. Growing a business does take time away from the family to a degree and I do wish I had a little more spare time on my hands.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I’d seriously love for Dusty Road Apparel to be the face product of Tourism Australia. I have seen cheap mass-produced clothing in tourism stores and information centres that simply isn’t Australian made or of a design or quality that I would put my own children in. So, expanding from local info centres to our biggest zoos Australia wide would be just amazing to see.
