They provide motivating challenges to increase both your confidence and your energy levels, to start you on a path towards being a fit, healthy and happy mum. The Fitt Mum Project founder, Kowhai Buchanan talks to the Natural Parent Magazine about her passion to help fellow mums to regain their sense of self, both for their own wellbeing and that of their families.

The passion: What inspired you to set up your business? 

As a mum, I’ve struggled with the day-to-day responsibilities and challenges that come with raising little ones, such as the never-ending sleepless nights, no energy, more sugar, always being sick, the demands, and the never-ending housework. I lost a sense of self along the way. 

This showed me the importance of making the time to look after myself. Doing this enabled me to be a better mum, better partner, better friend, and overall improved my outlook on life. 

So, from this, The Fitt Mum Project was born, to help other mums feel and become their best self!  

The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?  

I started out offering small group fitness classes to a few mums from my garage studio. This grew into a small community of over 20 mums coming to multiple classes each week. 

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?  

My little one loves to join in with my workouts, so I am able to show other mums it’s possible, and somewhat difficult, haha, but possible! So that we can get our workouts in with little ones around, we made short workout videos for other mums and their kids to follow. My little one (Nyah) now also takes her own 5-minute ‘Fitt Tots with Nyah’ workouts for other littlies to join in.
