Handmade for Little Feet

The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?

For me, the biggest challenge (which is a constant) is overcoming the feeling of unproductivity. The feeling you need to achieve more, tick those boxes and be  super mum everyday. Some days, whether it’s as a creative or as a mum, feeling overwhelmed and unmotivated is a huge frustration.

Taking time out and shifting your focus is really important.

Making shoes, one pair at a time, brings me calmness and joy. Sometimes, all you need to do is start. Whatever it is and in no time, you have created something special. Even if it’s just dinner.

For Better or Worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

Being able to work from home doing something you love is definitely a win for me. Being able to pair that with being a parent, win win.

The downside is not having the inclination or being in the right mindset to manage and promote the business. Social media is a wonderful thing, but mentally draining. Patience and persistence help a lot – and not being afraid to ask for help.

Hopes and Dreams: What next?

Being able to continue doing what brings me joy and seeing happy, healthy little feet wearing my little shoes will keep me sane and happy.

We’ve just started creating ‘Bubby Boxes’, which are mini boxes of handmade goodness, designed around a pair of ‘one of a kind’ shoes. So this is a fun little  extra.

I think more and more people are supporting handmade, which is helping to keep alive so many wonderful skills that are fast being replaced by automation.  Shoemakers, jewellers and other talented artisans deserve our support. Don’t get me wrong, I embrace technology and innovation but striking a balance is key.

I’ll just keep creating something unique, something to be handed down, something to be worn and loved.
