It Take a Village: Find Trusted & Reliable Babysitters within a Supportive Community

The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Starting a business as mums with full-time jobs and young kids has been no small feat. From sleepless nights to the constant pressure to be present at home and at work, there were moments we doubted ourselves. So many moments. But every time we heard a story from a parent who found exactly the babysitter they needed, it made the challenges worth it.

For Better or Worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The best part? The flexibility to design a business around our values and to know we’re making a difference in people’s lives. Also the small wins – like making it into the Summer Cohort of the Ministry of Awesome and hearing that we have something worth backing. The hardest part? The lines between work and family blur a lot. Owning a business is so much harder than working for one, but in the same breath, so much more rewarding. At the end of the day, we wouldn’t trade this journey for anything.

Hopes and Dreams: What’s next?

We’re dreaming big! We want It Takes a Village to become a household name across the whole of New Zealand, offering even more resources and support for parents, and then hopefully moving our way across the ocean into Australia. I have family there who are in desperate need. Our ultimate goal is to expand into services that support families in every way possible – because we truly believe it takes a village to raise a child.

Head over to the It Takes a Village website to find out more, and connect with them on Facebook and Instagram.
