Jemima Kirke (from Girls) talks about her parenting insecurities

By Hannah Schenker

Style Like U have recently released another video in their series called “What’s Underneath” – this time with Jemima Kirke of the TV show Girls. The initiative involves interviewing women while they slowly undress, eventually finishing off the interview in their smalls. Why? To show that true style goes deeper than the clothes we wear. We are far more than the clothes we wear or our outward physical manifestation.

In the 13-minute interview, Jemima talks openly about her struggles with insecurity, particularly related to parenting and her neuroses, worries and preoccupations. Her candid comments will resonate with many who perhaps are not as comfortable speaking these things out loud.

“I’m very insecure about my capabilities in a lot of areas ― one of them being parenting,” she says. “I was not ready to have a baby, and I really was not thinking about what I was doing. And I was doing it almost in the same way as getting a haircut or getting a tattoo.”

With tears welling up, she adds, “They should really like, have more of a screening for people at the hospital before they give the baby to you.”

There will be many of you out there who grew up through their twenties with a baby in tow who can possibly relate to these emotions. Share your stories with us in the comments below.
