My Journey to Pregnancy at Age 47

I wanted to conceive a child in the most natural way possible, but age was working against me. We soon decided to undergo IVF treatment as the results were promising. According to IVF Australia, 23.7% of women over the age of 43 successfully achieved pregnancy using IVF with a frozen embryo transfer in 2020. Furthermore, 17.3% of women over the age of 43 achieved a live birth. (https://www.ivf.com.au/success-rates/ivf-success-rates).

It was not a natural process, but we felt it was our best option. I augmented my treatment with natural therapies such as Chinese herbs, acupuncture, supplements, meditation, visualisation, hypnosis, and sound healing. My intuition assured me this was my recipe for success.

It took nine months and four rounds of treatment before we saw those illustrious two lines on the pregnancy test. Although I had visualised those two lines a hundred times before, my heart skipped a beat when I held the positive test result in my hands.

We were so full of emotion and excitement! I was pregnant!

I was one of the lucky few. Although, it is said that luck lies at the intersection between preparation and opportunity.

While I consciously decided in my mid-20s that I did not want to have children, I was unconsciously preparing my body for the right time. I was also preparing my mind by seeking help and guidance from coaches and therapists along the way. I focused on my personal development, growth, and overall happiness. My opportunity to experience pregnancy arose after years of self-love, personal development, and coaching; and only once the right man blessed my life.

So here I was, at my first pre-natal appointment, with stars in my eyes and a flutter in my heart. My journey to motherhood was officially underway!

Stay tuned for my article next month where I tell the story of my pregnancy and birth of my beautiful baby girl.
