Nourishment for When You Need it Most

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

I feel like it’s a new challenge every day! The main challenge I’m working through right now is making sure that the business is structured and operating in a way that can deliver a great service to our customers, can run profitably, and has the scope for future growth. It’s a fine balance that needs constant tweaking.

During the early stages, the biggest challenges were associated with sourcing produce and packaging that aligned with our principles and supported local businesses. It’s important to me that we utilise organic produce wherever possible, and source our meat from farmers with ethical practices. In addition, I want to reduce our environmental impact as much as possible, which means being considered with our packaging choices. We use compostable or recyclable food packaging, and our shipping cartons and insulation are all from recycled materials.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

As I find my rhythm with the business and establish the processes, it’s providing me with a level of flexibility that I wouldn’t have dreamed of in my previous career. This means I can be more active and present in my children’s lives and contribute in ways such as being on the committee for our local kinder. Being able to structure my days and weeks in a way that works for me and my family has been a gamechanger.

It’s been a rollercoaster to get to this point though, and I’ve had a few moments where I’ve considered throwing in the towel. I feel like I’m beginning to make peace with the fact that the work is never done and sometimes you just need to close the laptop and put your feet up despite the to-do list being 3 miles long.

And of course, a major perk of having a food business is that we always have a freezer stocked with amazing meals that my kids love, which lightens the load at the end of a busy day!

Hopes and dreams: What next?

For now, I’m happy to just let the business settle and continue to focus on improving our service and experience. I also have some fun ideas for new products, all centred on lightening the load for busy families. Watch this space!
