The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Impatience. I wanted to run before I could walk. Never having a business before, I’ve had to learn a lot of the boring stuff like accounting but also marketing and networking. Networking is how I have overcome most things. Also, speaking with other female entrepreneurs and joining APDO (Association of Professional Declutterers and Organisers). Hiring a business consultant also helped me to navigate these new waters. I would say it can be a very lonely journey and frustrating at times, so surrounding myself with amazing people gets me through.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The main pro is seeing what I do make such a positive difference to the families that I work with. To hear that the children are thriving in the environment that is set up for them to be more independent, or that the parents feel less stressed and overwhelmed because the systems we’ve created mean routines can run more smoothly is literally why I do this. Other pros are that you get to choose when to work and to charge your worth.
While it is a pro that all the decisions are yours to be made, it’s also a con. Your business is your baby. Every decision is yours to make. If something goes wrong (such as your accounting app not connecting to your bank), you’re the one that has to spend hours on the phone to the bank and the app to fix it.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My dream is to take More to Organising to even more families. I have already supported mums and nannies in America online and my book is being sold there too! I have done workshops in nurseries for More to Books but I would love to do More to Organising workshops in schools and nurseries for parents, so more children can thrive and more families can live with ease.
Visit the More to Organising website to find out more, and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
