The drive: What challenges have you overcome? 

Technology (from website build to interfaces and social marketing) has been the steepest learning curve for me – the speed of change, the terminology, and having to do it all myself versus being in a big team and passing it off to a buyer, planner, IT manager or accountant. 

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business? 

I love working with my local and international team and partners and having the freedom to choose my daily priorities. 

I am also grateful to spend more time with my teenagers as our office is at home on Waiheke Island. 

I love helping our customers make better, healthy lifestyle choices and eco-product swaps – and getting feedback, including excellent product suggestions from the EKOH customer community. 

The cons are managing cash flow in a new business, and the workload can also be challenging. 

Hopes and dreams: What next? 

We want to continue to grow our loyal customer base and subscribers, as well as promoting our EKOH range to online Marketplaces to reach a wider community of customers both locally and internationally 

We also have plans to extend our range into select eco-friendly and refill stores across New Zealand and to extend our zero-waste and sustainable product options.
