The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I have overcome some health challenges. I have endometriosis as well as thyroid issues and I developed postpartum thyroiditis a year after the birth of my son and spent many years trying to get on top of this. This proved to be very difficult, and I still have an ongoing battle with my health, but it has improved.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
There are a lot of both. Some pros have always been the flexibility of running your own business, making all the decisions, and the fact I could work from home and also travel when we wanted to. The cons are of course because you make all the decisions, your work doesn’t really end and I don’t get much time off, even when I travel, as I’m still doing emails. When you go through a difficult patch in business, such as difficulty in supply, it’s hard to switch off and you feel the full weight of responsibility. But when things are going very well, it’s great to know you can be flexible about when you work. I wasn’t able to take much time off after my son was born, but I could work from home with him, and my husband also has his own business, so we took turns working and parenting.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I am looking forward to launching our new website which has been in the pipeline for some time. I used to visit my USA supplier every couple of years and haven’t been able to do that or travel elsewhere so am looking forward to travelling a bit again once everything is open. I am also launching some new Stainless Steel Filter bottles very soon in a range of colours with pH alkalising filters, which will filter and alkalise your drinking water.
My dream is to grow my business even more. Covid took a toll (as it did for many other businesses) as a lot of our customers/retailers were in the travel industry with our portable travel filter bottles. I have focused more on our home water filter jugs and shower and bath filters over the past couple of years.
