Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
My family has grown up and they have their own families now. The Mother & Baby range came about from making healing products for my wee grandies. I really enjoy growing the plants and making the products. It’s my happy place.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
The biggest challenge has been to grow plants that normally don’t grow on Stewart Island. The main two being Kawakawa and Arnica. The Kawakawa plants, which are 8 years old, would grow that same size in a few years up north. And to keep the deer from eating them – that’s a challenge also!
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros are that you can do exactly what you want. Ideas can just flow without being stifled by someone else.
The cons are that you are always working in one way or another.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My dream is to take Stewart Island Botanicals further. I know the products are awesome and they work – I just need other people to realise that.
Visit the Stewart Island Botanicals website to find out more and to browse their range of natural skincare products. You can also follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
