Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
16 years in business has taught my soulmate (aka hubby) and I…BALANCE!
As we love spending all our waking hours together, we tend to all areas of life together, even gardening (mindfulness at its best for us) and our children, however we do have our ‘defined roles’, for example, washing, ironing, cleaning bathrooms are my jam and his are cooking, cleaning the remainder of the house and dishes. We also have our ‘defined roles’ in our businesses, as running five in our household requires clarity for high functioning businesses.
Funny that with such defined roles, we have our own groove yet are in sync. With business, which includes our 20-acre urban farm and tending to our 3 spirited sons, we need to run a tight ship, since our sons are all state and national level swimmers. David does the early morning sessions (I am a night owl eek) yet I do all the official duties for every one of their competitions. We journey as a family to every comp which means working together to cook and prep for a big weekend meet, where most weekends in summer are country meets requiring travelling from Adelaide!
We just love our togetherness and have fused biz and family to perfection…finally, as it did take a good few years to get this balance!
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Wow oh wow, the challenges have been so huge but the quintessential element of it all was finding balance between STRATEGY and SOUL!
STRATEGY is essential for a well-founded business for exponential growth, yet fused with SOUL, is grandiose!
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Pros for us outweigh cons by a million to one! We love having the full flexibility business life offers. Our children have always been in our care. We never required childcare or OHSC, which we feel has benefited our family heading into teenage years by holding our sons close in their early years.
Other Pros include the uncapped earning capacity, flexible hours, the ability to outsource when overwhelmed, being able to choose who we work with, and being able to be as creative as we feel called to be!
Cons: I truly am an optimist and don’t see cons. I see opportunities for change as the pro of businesses is…if there is a con, you can change it so it doesn’t remain a con!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
To continue to make a difference in this world. Firstly, for more peace and self-love, and secondly, love for nature and others. We cannot truly love another human until we love ourselves. For some, to love themselves is to start or expand a dream business, explore a hobby or spend time in nature. Since I don’t leave any stone unturned, I shall never die wondering like the old saying, “it’s the journey, not the destination.” My approach to my business mentoring is unique. My purpose is to awaken and connect spiritually and be assertive in teaching others to be FEARLESS in business, as I bring energy of an adventurous explorer in life!
My educational mentoring side of ‘Adrianne Skye‘ business launches late 2021, however unofficially, we are already on socials as ‘GRATEFULLY NATURED’. This finalises my educational dream to retire from the education sector and purely mentor. The ultimate will be when I publish my book “Flairs of Brilliance.” I am passionate to rid the negative labels and discussions of learning disabilities. Dyslexia exhibits amazing flairs of brilliance such as creativity, big dreams, and entrepreneurs. If I make a stand, becoming the voice for all parents struggling with resistant systems stifling children’s creativity, then I will fulfil my vision of Adrianne Skye.
Believing we shine like wild diamonds focussing on unique “Flairs of Brilliance”, not weaknesses, creates intrinsic happiness. It is truly special finding peace within and often that “bliss” point of happiness emerges when listening to the soul’s desires with an abundance mindset.
Stay Shining Wild Diamond!
