The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I’m a bit of a perfectionist or control freak at times (hello trauma!), which I am working on. I am learning to remind myself that all I can do is my best. Sometimes, near enough really is good enough for today. That I can achieve what I would like to in time, but it doesn’t have to be all done right now. It’s better to focus on what I did get done, rather than what didn’t. That balance and boundaries are important. I think as a woman, and a mother especially, we are exposed to a lot of different pressures and judgements and as I get older, it’s getting much easier to not allow that to get to me and to be able to trust in my own process and worthiness more. While I’m always open to learning and growing as a person and as a businesswoman, I also accept that I am not perfect, nobody is (no matter what their Instagram may lead you to believe!) and that’s OK. You do you! There is only one you, it’s your greatest gift in life.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Being an introvert, I love working from home and having my own business. A big pro is definitely the flexibility, which allows me to spend more time with my kids than if I had a full-time job outside of the home. I love that if my mum needs something, I can be there to help without too much drama. I feel super grateful that I get to work with my husband, because he and I have a lot of fun together, and it’s really lovely to be able to spend our days together. There are even the little things like being able to choose the music we listen to and dance while we pack orders or listen to an interesting podcast while we work. I love that I get to be creative in my work. We have so many little freedoms that actually mean so much and bring us so much joy to our day. No daily commute to work is pretty awesome too.
Obviously, one of the biggest pros when you own a crystal shop is the blessing of being able to play a small role in people’s healing journeys and helping to beautify their homes and offices with high vibe crystals. I honestly believe that in order to heal the world, we have to all heal on an individual level. I can’t change the world as just one person, but what I can change is myself and I can do this through healing, which can in turn, make the world a happier and healthier place. We can all do this in our own ways.
The cons would be struggle to switch off at times. It’s a lot of work running a business with just two people. We do everything ourselves and it’s time consuming. It’s hard if one of us is sick or one of the kids is sick, as there is no one to replace us.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I’m an Aries woman, so I’m often feeling inspired and having ideas about ways I would like to improve the business or expand in certain ways. We are always on the hunt for the most beautiful crystals, of course! We love being able to source unique specimens at the best possible prices. I would love to be able to help as many people as possible discover the healing powers of crystals and the healing power we all hold within us.
I have been feeling inspired to write more, so there will be a lot more Blog posts coming to the website soon, so look out for them if you would like to learn more about how crystals can improve your life. My greatest passion is crystal grids, so I would like to run some Crystal Grid Workshops in the future as well.
On a personal level, we are working towards having our own self-sustainable property. We only have one planet, and we need to protect it for our children’s futures and many generations to come. I dream of living off my own garden and spending more time in nature.
