The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
There have been many challenges along the way. Health complications, chronic fatigue, burnout, moving house, flooding, stress and mould exposure all happened during periods of study, work and business building. At times, it was genuinely hard, and there were moments where I questioned whether I should keep going.
What carried me through was the knowledge and skills I was gaining along the way. Being able to support myself through those experiences, and eventually come out the other side, has shaped who I am today. That lived experience allows me to connect with clients on a deeper level and offer support from a place of real understanding and compassion.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
One of the biggest challenges is not having a guaranteed income. When you have regular bills and responsibilities, that uncertainty can feel heavy. Knowing from the beginning that growth can be slow has helped me set realistic expectations.
The positive is that I am building something that creates the flexibility and balance I want long term. The work I am putting in now, especially around systems, resources and foundations, is creating more space for time with my whānau in the future. That makes the mahi worthwhile.

Hopes and dreams: What next?
Kōwhai and Bloom is already out in the world, ready to order and sitting in homes across Aotearoa, which still feels pretty special. Looking ahead, I would love to create a tāne version, as well as an online support programme for women moving through burnout. Something that truly resonates. A space women can work through in their own time, with practical guidance, gentle recommendations and support built around genuine compassion. Burnout can be incredibly lonely and debilitating, and I would love to create something that meets women where they are.
Alongside this, my longer-term vision is to continue building toward a multidisciplinary wellness space. A place where people feel supported not just with health concerns, but as whole humans, with care that recognises the many layers of life.
At the heart of everything I do is a desire to create a supportive, inclusive community. One where people feel safe, seen and supported, and know they are not navigating things on their own.
