The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I’m not sure that I have overcome anything specific as in business there are always challenges. Such as finding good suppliers, ensuring products arrive on time, marketing, etc. It’s always good to keep a positive open mind, to stay focussed and keep trying to move forward by setting yourself daily goals.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I love working for myself as it works well for my family and it’s fairly flexible. I am learning new things as I go along which I really enjoy. The downfalls are that it is just me and I don’t really have anyone to bounce ideas off. I really have to go with my gut and try to make it work. In my teaching role we spent a lot of time discussing the daily class events and reflecting on what could be improved for next time which I really miss, as you can achieve a lot with a fantastic group of like-minded people who share a similar vision.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I really would love the business to expand in terms of bi-monthy subscription box distribution within New Zealand and Australia. This is my most immediate focus. Also, perhaps introducing a variation of the box for a different age bracket. And I like the idea of running small groups for children where we read a book aloud together, have chats and create wonderful arty things relating to the storybook.
