The Chiro Studio: Empowering Families to Thrive

The Chiro Studio

With a passion for family wellbeing, Chiropractor Karishma Masters helps mums, babies, children and parents feel their best through every stage of life. After almost a decade caring for families and supporting women through pregnancy across Auckland, she set out in 2023 to build a space where holistic health, education and genuine care come together. She wants to help families not just find relief, but truly thrive, and live their healthiest lives. Here she talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the inspiration behind The Chiro Studio, her biggest breakthrough, the challenges she has overcome along the way, and her hopes and dreams for the future.

The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?

As a chiropractor, I have always been passionate about helping people function and feel their best, naturally. Over the last nine years, I have practised at multiple different chiropractic clinics around Auckland looking after a lot of families and pregnancies. I knew then, providing chiropractic care to families and supporting pregnant women was something I was really drawn to and I wanted to build a space that felt warm, calming and supportive for mums, bubs, kids and families. A place where holistic health, education and genuine care can come together to empower people through every stage of life. It’s not just about pain relief; it’s about helping families thrive.

The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?

Starting The Chiro Studio in 2023 was both exciting and nerve-wracking. My vision from the start was to create a warm, welcoming and supportive space that focused on care for the whole family. I found Westgate to be a growing area with lots of families and saw a gap in the market for a chiropractor focusing on this. I found the perfect little space tucked away upstairs, which some of our families like to call a “hidden gem”.

In the early days, I poured everything into the business. I had my husband and a couple of great friends and family who helped me with it all. From designing our logo, to building the website and creating the space I wanted.

Seeing the impact chiropractic care has made on the families and hearing amazing feedback from them who have felt a real difference is when I knew I was building something truly special.

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

The biggest breakthrough for me was realising that The Chiro Studio was more than just providing adjustments. It was a nurturing family-focused space where people genuinely feel at ease. I started leaning into what made our space different: the calming vibe, the extra time we take with our patients allowing them to feel heard and cared for, the way we educate and empower mums through pregnancy and how we make kids feel safe and excited to visit us and get adjusted. The personalised experience for each patient became our strength.

With word-of-mouth starting to spread from happy families, that’s when I knew we had found our purpose.

A huge milestone has been hiring our first part-time associate chiropractor. This has allowed us to care for more families, offer great appointment flexibility and bring fresh energy and perspective into the practice. It has also freed me up to focus on growing the business and building further community connections.

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

While I’m not a parent myself, I deeply value work-life balance and make it a priority to care for my own wellbeing, so I can continue to show up and bring 110% for the families I support. Running The Chiro Studio is incredibly fulfilling but also comes with its own balancing acts. Over time, I’ve learned the importance of carving out space for my personal life beyond my professional life.

For me, balance means setting clear boundaries, taking time to recharge and making sure I am also looking after my own nervous system and health, just like we encourage our own patients to do. Whether it’s spending time with my loved ones, going for walks, enjoying movement or simply having a slow morning, these moments help keep me grounded.

While I may not have a family of my own, I feel incredibly honoured to be part of the wellness journey for so many mums, bubs and families, which gives my work so much purpose.
