Treat Yourself with All-Natural, Handcrafted Skincare

Earth's Beauty

It was Lisa Sumner’s dream to create skincare products that are 100% natural, as well as being affordable. Combining her experience in the beauty industry with her desire to free our skin from harmful chemicals, she created her own handmade, natural skincare and cosmetics range, Earth’s Beauty.

The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?

It had always been a whisper and when I became pregnant at 39 I made the switch to all-natural products. However, I found they were costly and with my beauty background and knowledge I wanted to create something that was affordable for people – as well as being 100% natural.  I wanted cosmetics that simply enhance the skin, not mask it, and that were good for not only the skin but the mind, body and soul.

The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?

I started to create my own cosmetics recipes. This involved a lot of trial and error but was all worth it as it is my passion!

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

Staying persistent was difficult but most importantly staying true to myself. Mica powder, which is used in eyeshadows and blushes (even ones claiming to be natural) is what gives the vibrant colours, but to get those bright colours, synthetic dyes are added to the mica so it’s not actually natural. So, I had to work at getting the colours for my highlighters and cheek/lip tints using just natural ingredients. Mica would have been the easier option to get the colours I wanted, but I’m proud to say I have done this on my own after a lot of trial and error. I also took my own photos and designed my own logo which is really rewarding and personal to me.

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

The work-family balance is not easy with a busy toddler and he always comes first. Luckily, I have wonderful support from my hubby, father of our son. I do try to meditate every morning for 10 minutes as it is so important to practise mindfulness and take that time for yourself. Then I’m recharged for the day ahead to tackle both work and parenting 😊
