The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
When is there not a challenge in business? In the beginning, finding the perfect manufacturer to work with that we can put our money and trust into, because they are our whole business. We of course had massive expectations when we picked a manufacturer to work with. One that was ethical and sustainable and treated its employees fairly. I am so glad I have found an incredible manufacturer that supports me through my growth, who also produces the highest quality products and treats their employees as family.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
A big pro is that you work your own hours. As I said earlier, my family is the most important, so this allows me the flexibility to meet their needs. But, your business will only succeed if you put in the work.
As for cons: the demand. I really wish I had an ample amount of money to put into this business for my customers. My designs sell out and still some miss out, which makes me so sad. But, as I grow, I know I will be able to cater to so many needs in this niche.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I love this. I have so many dreams for Rumi + Sol. One thing coming in June/July 2023 is our new line.
The Event Edit. This has been in the works for almost a year: sampling, designing, planning, perfecting. My passion for this line is the fact that just because you are breastfeeding doesn’t mean you should sacrifice style for inclusivity. I am due with my second baby in May 2023, and I have three weddings, hens parties and baby showers this year – I want to have high quality, fashionable, high end pieces to wear to make you feel comfortable while you have that event on. I can’t wait to launch this line. It will start with three pieces that I have designed, sampled, tested and loved – with more coming in the future.
Personal long-term goals for Rumi + Sol would be to build my brand to a size that allows me to have a small warehouse and to be able to employ other women.
