Why you shouldn’t wait until your baby’s no longer a baby to start breaking the cycles of self-sacrifice

We all know that parenting is a long game we’re playing – that’s the point – we know we’ll be weathering many seasons in the time we raise our kids. We know there will be challenges that shift and change. But I think when we’re in the earliest seasons of babyhood and toddlerhood, we can easily believe “It’s just a season, I’ll be able to meet my needs when they’re not a toddler anymore and they’re sleeping all night”.

But, if you look closely, there are mums all around you in all different seasons telling themselves a version of that same thing. And continuing to put themselves last.

How powerful would it be if you were to start breaking the cycles of self-sacrifice now? With a baby, or a toddler (or both!). How different would our conversations be when we have teenagers, then adult children, then grandchildren? And then what legacy would you be passing on to your children? How different will their experience of parenthood be where they prioritise meeting their own needs, as well as your grandchildren’s?

How powerful would it be if you were to start breaking the cycles of self-sacrifice now? With a baby, or a toddler (or both!).

I am so passionate about this and become more passionate the more I delve into it and the more I support mums to thrive in motherhood – the cycles we break now and the foundations we set, while our babies are still babies, are setting us up to continue thriving through each season of parenthood.

Breaking the cycles of self-sacrifice will not only serve you now in the early years, but also far beyond your baby’s childhood.
