Messy Moments: Saving the World, One Wet Bag at a Time

I’m also incredibly blessed to have an amazing place of work. The ECE centre I work in have an amazingly supportive and friendly team, who have all become great friends of mine. They’ve supported me in my business endeavours, shared Messy Moments with their friends and family, given me some great ideas along the way and have constantly reassured and supported me. I’ve been very lucky to find such a wonderful working environment.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Being an early childhood teacher, business and finances weren’t things I was overly familiar with. I dove head first into the business before I had time to talk myself out of it, knowing I would if I spent too long thinking. I was lucky enough to have a wonderful and incredibly talented mother who also runs her own small business and has a lifetime of experience that I don’t have. She helped me through a lot in the early days when I felt like a fish out of water.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

I’m the kind of person that needs to be constantly challenged and constantly learning. While my studies have taught me so much and continue to teach me more each day, I felt as though I was almost on a countdown to a qualification, and then it would be over and I would need to find something else to fill that void. I needed a little more direction in my life and something I could continue to grow and work on, no matter what stage of life I was at. I have always been intrigued by the thought of working for myself, and so far I’ve been really enjoying it! However, I have struggled to find time for myself to wind down, which has been hard at times. I’ve learnt to give myself breaks, to force myself out of “work mode” and take some time for myself so that I can come at it with a clear head and start again.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I hope to start supplying more products, keeping with the idea of sustainability and hopefully soon we’ll have more to offer. I have what feels like a million ideas go through my head every day, from new products to entirely new businesses, but I’m taking it one step at a time, making sure I can provide the right products to the right people affordably.
