After training and then working in a team environment, Dr Jess Croft went out on her own, to create Flourish Chiropractic. She gives reasons for checking children for vertebral subluxation (spinal dysfunction) and shares the journey so far with Flourish Chiropractic.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
We are all about “growing healthy families naturally” at Flourish Chiropractic. I am especially passionate about giving children the best opportunity to grow, develop and thrive. By ensuring their nerve system is not under strain and tension is the greatest gift we can give and helps set them up for a life of health and wellbeing.
People have often not heard how much chiropractic care can help infants and children adapt to their environment which is why I am excited to get out in the community and share this important information.
Reasons why we check children for vertebral subluxation (Spine Dysfunction)
- To encourage good neural plasticity (brain and nerve development) and improve learning and concentration
- Support optimal nerve communication throughout the body, promoting health and wellness
- Strengthen immunity, encouraging fewer colds, earaches and general illness and support digestive function
- To help resolve breastfeeding challenges and issues with colic
- Support the development of spinal curves, muscle function and body balance so children can adapt to the impact the modern world has on our bodies
During the birth process, an infant’s upper neck and skull are exposed to lots of stress and tension, this is a largely underreported and under cared for issue. A study in 1992 of 1500 infants following birth found that 10% of infants had NO stress and strain patterns in the movement of their skull bones. 10% had significant trauma, even visible to the untrained eye and the remaining 80% had decreased motion and adequate movement patterns of the skull and upper neck bones.
Now, why is this an issue? Because the relationship between the movement of the skull and spine can affect how well the nervous system will function. The system that controls and coordinates EVERYTHING.
At Flourish Chiropractic we specifically adjust vertebral subluxation (spinal dysfunction) so the nervous system can function (send messages between the brain and the body, body and the brain) without interference. Adjustments are different for each person and are tailored to the age and development of the infant, child or adult being checked.
The Launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
I always knew I wanted my own practice. I was lucky enough to work as a Chiropractic assistant whilst I was studying at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic. During this time I really got to observe and help shape the experience for practice members.
Once graduated in 2016 I worked as an associated in two wonderful Auckland practices where I got to upskill and explore how I really wanted my practice to operate and function. I am grateful to have been supported, encouraged and mentored by some of the best Chiropractors in New Zealand and get to put all that I learnt into action for my community.
