Growing Healthy Families Naturally

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

We are so excited to be using the latest technology to assess the function of our practise member’s nervous system. By using thermographic scanning, we can detect patterns of underlying stress on the autonomic nervous system, which controls all the function of organs, glands and blood vessels. It is non-invasive and safe to use on all ages. When we combine this with surface electromyography (measuring electrical activity in the spinal muscles) and our chiropractic examinations we can find out how much strain an individual’s nervous system has been under and how this is affecting their overall health, wellbeing and quality of life.

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

Great question! As a professional who talks about balance daily I am not yet there myself. Flourish is in its infancy having opened our doors 24th September 2018 it requires a lot of my energy and effort. Im one of those lucky people who absolutely loves what I do, so it never feels like work. Balance comes in the form of me learning to say no or not right now to certain things (something I struggle with a lot). Setting good boundaries also helps me gain balance. Sundays are for spending time with my husband so we try not to book other commitments on that day unless we are doing something together.

Getting out in nature and walking the wild west coast beaches always helps ground me and recharge my batteries.

The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Public misconception that chiropractic care is only for adults with back pain.

People often don’t think to look after their spine until there is pain or a problem. That’s why we get excited when we hear in the office “WOW, I had no idea this is what chiropractic was about” we call them the light bulb moments and we love that our practice members are helping share the information with their friends, family and loved ones so we can grow a healthier community.

Another challenge I found, and it wasn’t something I had considered would be a challenge until I came up against it.

I was extremely used to working in teams and family is one of my highest values so when I went out on my own I was the only person in the office.  I missed the energy and interaction you gain from working together with likeminded passionate people.

I was balancing being the Business Director, Chiropractor, the Chiropractic Assistant, the Accountant, the Marketing Manager, the Cleaner, well the everything person. I have had to learn to reach out and ask for support when I need it. I have the most incredible colleagues who help inspire and push me and as we grow I am able to grow the team.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

I adore that I get to create a warm, welcoming, healing space. I love getting to make the decisions about where and how we share the chiropractic message with the community. We have connected with the most amazing people hypno-birthing, midwives, SPACE group, local primary schools, movement/life coaches and naturopaths.

I am yet to find a con (if any) but the things I find more challenging is ….. paperwork, I really have to force myself to sit down and tick off admin tasks and not procrastinate.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

Growth. The past 9 months have been incredible. I am so honored to be able to care for individuals and families and watch them regain and maintain their health and vitality.

I hope to bring on another Chiropractor so the practice can serve even more people and help them achieve the health and life they deserve, naturally.
