Children benefit most when they have many opportunities available to them. One of the best things is to get to know the animals they share the planet – and maybe even a home – with. Even young kids can understand how to be kind to furry friends if you demonstrate how to coexist with them.
Being Around Animals Benefits Humans
Animals can benefit people’s mental and physical health. Simply spending time around them, especially pets, can help you unwind after a stressful day. Spending time with dogs, in particular, can lower your cholesterol and improve cardiovascular health.

Your child can also develop empathy through spending time with animals. Children will begin to comprehend body language and how to treat others correctly, even if someone doesn’t or cannot speak up for themselves. People tend to have more empathy toward animals, and spending time with them can help your kids become more well-rounded.
Behaviours to Teach Your Children
You can teach kids how to behave properly around animals from a young age. You don’t want them to upset your pets or wildlife, and you don’t want those creatures to lash out at your children. Teach kids how to treat animals from a young age. That way, when they encounter a new one, they’ll know how to treat them so everyone can remain safe.

1. Teach General Care
Caring for an animal goes past knowing how to refill a food and water bowl. Teach your child that pets are a lot of responsibility, and they’re much like babies in that they need people to take care of all their needs. Once they’re old enough, you can explain pests to your child and tell them why flea prevention is a must – especially since they can lay up to 500 eggs in just over three months.
Your child will inevitably have more questions about pet care as they get older. Once they understand how to treat animals, you can teach them more about keeping pets healthy and happy. Certain cat or dog breeds might have restrictions and requirements for their care, whereas reptiles or fish need different assistance entirely. No question is too silly for you to answer, especially when your children are curious.
